The Need to Have Faith in God
Do you have the faith needed to trust God for your needs? The need to have faith in God is pivotal to our relationship with Christ. We must believe that He is a sovereign God with power and control over all things. We need to sincerely believe that He will fulfill His promises to us even when we cannot yet see the evidence. This is what it means to have faith in God – believing confidently and without evidence that we will receive from Him.
In this post, I will talk a little about the topic of Faith and its importance to serve God. How faith gets prayers answered and promises fulfilled, by giving examples of bible believers who had faith in God and received their promises from Him. Further, I will discuss that without faith, God will not answer our prayers, much less grant our promises. And that if you have faith and believe, you will receive promises according to His will. Finally, I discuss why, sometimes even when we have faith in God, He does not fulfill the desires of our hearts.
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1
“This is what it means to have faith in God – believing confidently and without evidence that we will receive from Him.”

“Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
Hebrews 11:3
Examples of Bible Believers Having Faith for Fulfilled Promises
Throughout the book of Hebrews chapter 11, we find a number of examples of believers from the Bible, based on the old testament, practicing faith in God and receiving their promises from Him – no matter how long they had to wait. These examples should inspire us to have faith in God to fulfill His promises to us too.
“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death. And was not found because God had translated Him. For before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God.”
Hebrews 11:5
“By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house. By the which, he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
Hebrews 11:7
“Through faith also Sarah received her strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age. Because she judged Him faithful who had promised.”
Hebrews 11:11
“By faith Abraham when he was tried, offered up Isaac, and he that hath received the promise offered up his only begotten son. Of whom it was said that Isaac shall thy seed be called. Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead from when also he received him in a figure.”
Hebrews 11:19
Will God Fulfill His Promises to Us if We Lack Faith in Him?

God will not fulfill His promises to us if we lack faith in Him. According to Hebrews 11:6, “it is impossible to please Him without faith.” And this is quite logical, how can we expect to receive something if we don’t believe in it, or in the person’s ability who fulfills it for us?
Consider all those believers mentioned in Hebrews chapter 11, with reports of God fulfilling His promises to them because they believed in Him and His power. What if they didn’t believe or had weak faith? Do you think that God would have fulfilled His promises to them? No! This is why we need to have faith in God, and when we approach Him in prayer we must sincerely and passionately believe because He knows our hearts and can tell if we are lacking faith.
Believe That You Will Receive Your Desires and You Will Have Them
“Therefore, I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
Mark 11:24
Approaching God with sincere belief in our hearts will elicit the right response from Him. Go to Him in prayer humbly and sincerely believing that whatever you ask of Him, you will receive. And be gracious and thank Him for His blessings. God wants to bless us, heal us and meet our needs, but sometimes a lack of faith hinders our prayers. We pray without believing, and then we don’t receive. Then we wonder why. God knows this, and this is why He told us to believe first.
If you are struggling with faith and believing in Him, just refer to all the evidence of Jesus’ manifested powers when He came to earth. Healing the sick, raising the dead, increasing 2 fish and five loads to provide for 5000 people, etc. And much more miracles throughout the Bible.
Importantly, pray specifically for God to increase your faith in Him to believe. Having faith in God can be the difference between receiving healing for sickness and suffering from it. The difference between that job that you really need and not getting it. It is contingent upon God to grant it to you, but you must believe.
Why God Doesn’t Answer Our Prayers, Even When We Have Faith in Him
You may say that I have faith in God, I live a righteous, surrendered life to Him, and he didn’t answer my prayer for a particular request. We’ve all been there. But, that does not mean that our faith was in vain and we should stop believing. When we’ve done our part and are sincere toward God and trust and believe in Him, then it’s up to Him how and when we respond. There could be a number of reasons why God sometimes declines our prayer requests.
We can all agree on the fact that God predestinated us before the foundation of the world, and that He knows everything about us, from our beginning to our end. Therefore, He has the ability to know if we’re asking for something for the wrong reasons. And if it would prove detrimental to us if He grants it. Other reasons could be that He has something better in store for us and is waiting for the right time to grant it to us. There could be a number of reasons, but we must accept his decision.
To that end, it is important to have faith in God to serve Him righteously. As we know, “it’s impossible to please Him without faith.” We must first believe in Him and His power to fulfill His promises to us. Answered prayers are just as good as our measure of faith in God. If we demonstrate a lack of faith, it could mean the difference between getting our prayer answered and not. If you are struggling with faith, go to the Lord and pray specifically to increase faith. We must have faith in God on this Christian journey.
